This past week, I reached out to multiple professionals and began to plan for my original work project. This was pretty simple, but a major step for ISM.
Music
Before I get to my work in ISM, I had multiple events with music this week. On Thursday, I had my first School Orchestra concert of the year where multiple pieces with the orchestra, but also the other harpist and I performed a duet. This was fun because we performed "Prince Ali" from Aladdin, which is a good experience for playing a different style of music on the harp. Last year, we performed an arrangement of mine at our concert and I really want to work to make that happen again this year if possible.
Contact
Due to the specific nature of my field, I struggled to assemble a contact list at first, but between my symposium connection and some LinkedIn searching I was able to find some professionals that would be great to interview in my field. Also, I was able to use UNT's faculty pages to find some great people to help in my interviews that are local to my area. Between these, I've been able to start reaching out and feel good about the interviews I'm working to schedule.
Original Work
For the original work, I want to continue my idea I brought up in my last blog post. My focus in this course is tied a lot to style and technique, so I think by choosing varying styled I can create a project that will extend my arranging ability further and help me to understand my strengths and weaknesses as well as smaller and larger details in how music can vary.
