Time Away

Writer's picture: Ryan BattRyan Batt

This week, my family went out of town. This provided an interesting time with ability to make some progress, but also many limitations.

Destination

During out trip we took a short, leisurely 16 hour drive to Florida to see my mom's side of my family. My grandfather is a helicopter pilot instructor, so he has a difficult work schedule that meant he missed the majority of our visit. Aside from his work though, he has many hobbies and passions such as sailing and carpentry. This was really interesting, because my mom's stepmother was able to show us a boat he's currently working on. Also, with his carpentry skills, he made me a birthday present! Following my purchasing of my harp, I have needed to borrow the school harp dolly weekly for the GNTYO, but he built me one from scratch! Between this and the fun activities Florida has to offer made for a fun trip that was refreshing in the midst of a very busy year.

School

School moving to be mostly digital work has made homework and schoolwork convenient during the year, but also easier to keep up with in cases of extended absences. Luckily, this week had a fairly low workload which made for easy maintenance. During this time, I also made progress with ISM though as it gave me extended time to focus on research interviews. So far, I am in direct communication with an audio engineer and a university harp instructor. These communications will be vital to my research, so I'm looking forward to these interviews greatly.

I have a lot to look forward to in the coming weeks, but this week offered a nice reset in what can be an overwhelming year for many seniors.
